al-jazeera
The second best news station in the world is about to start broadcasting in English. This is a good thing. Any news channel that is so universally hated by governments all round the world is doing something right. It's still no BBC, but I'm glad that the Beeb has competition/backup. It sure as hell doesn't have any from American news outlets.

Bums. It hasn't appeared on my freeview so I guess it's not for me! Maybe I'll try again after 12 when it opens.

No, but it looks great. I saw a BBC documentary on Al-Jazeera a couple of years back and it was excellent. They came across as very serious, literate and dedicated to exposing the truth about things.

It'll be interesting to see if they try to emulate the BBC news service and just be anti-American, or if they'll offer direct translations of their Arabic programming and broadcast their anti-Semetic stuff as well.

The BBC aren't anti-American, they're just anti-idiot. Unfortunately these days the two things often seem to coincide.

Nonetheless it will be interesting to see if Al Jazeera broadcasts in English the same anti-Semitism they broadcast in Arabic.

I hear you: I feel like being now American means the equivalent of having to constantly apologize for the drunk guy with a lampshade on his head who is pinching bottoms...(1)

(1) Unless said American is the drunk guy, to keep banging my metaphor to death.

Did you get to go past the cheese castle?:)
